Description:
Sesame (scientifically known as Sesamum indicum) is an ancient, traditionally used plant. The plants grow very quickly up to 2 meters tall. Like poppy, sesame is a capsule fruit. Sesame is usually harvested between late summer and early autumn. Immediately after harvest, the sesame plant is dried, which causes the capsules to open.
Uses:
Sesame is often used in dough and baked goods. In Germany, sesame is especially known as a topping on bread rolls. It is also a popular ingredient for Asian and Middle Eastern dishes.
